Summer SAVY Session 3, Day 4– Solving for the Unknown: Mathematical Problems, Patterns, and Variables
Day 4: Today in “Solving for the Unknown”, we utilized our knowledge of strategies in solving more problems with multiple variables. Students identified when given a set of equations that go together, which equation is the best starting place to find the solution to the unknown values. This afternoon, we began to prep for our culminating project. Students will synthesize their understanding of solving equations and big ideas of variables and equality. The classroom tomorrow will soon become a mall with a variety of shops. Students will act as shop owners and make signs advertising merchandise specials. Once shops are set up, shop owners reverse roles to become shoppers. They will solve solutions when shopping. Students may decide to bring in real items they may have at home for their shop.
