Summer SAVY 2023 Session 1, Day 3 – Agricultural Engineering

Posted by on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 in blog, SAVY, Uncategorized.

Day 3:  The SAVY students were beyond creative today! Each student was tasked to create a different part of a flower based on their label and collaborate to piece it together in the correct order. We used this opportunity to discuss the scale and size, functions, and placements of each part.

We compared the Engineering Design Process with the Scientific Method steps while we prepared for our science experiment for tomorrow. The students also created characters, scenes (habitats with different species and varieties of plants), and plots about agricultural engineering for our reader’s theater play they will perform tomorrow.

Some dinner table discussions:

  • Name some parts of a flower and any of the functions.
  • Compare and contrast the Engineering Design Process and Scientific Method.
  • What is the minimum number of tests or trials a scientist must complete for a true experiment and why multiple times?

We have plenty of materials to complete our hand pollinators, but the students are more than welcome to bring any supplemental supplies – I want to encourage all the creative and imaginative ideas they have had this week!

Have a wonderful evening!

Warmly, Ms. Marshall and Ms. Yuka
