Dear SAVY Parents!  Thank you for sharing your child today to be apart of our amazing learning discoveries and discussions!  We are so excited about this topic and going deeper in our understanding of why myths and stories can be so powerful and intriguing.
Today we heard and discussed 5 different creation myths from ancient cultures including West African, Egyptian, Greek and Scandinavian.  We asked ourselves many questions.  How did these original oral traditions and stories come about?  We observed how different elements in the stories were used.   Some fantastic gods, creatures, brought about occurrences that were often used to explain natural phenomena such a world geography and common events such as earthquakes.  We were just beginning to view the interactions and motivations of the gods that could also be used to teacher values and character qualities.  We also asked how some cultures were preserved through the myths, and we’ll continue with that theme.
Tomorrow, we will learn more specifically about the Greek and Roman cultures, as well as the Norse mythologies brought about unique environment from which it came.  We will continue to take on the difficult concepts addressed in mythology to see what lessons they might have for us today in our modern world.  Tonight, you may want to talk about the different creation myths that your child has heard, and discuss some of the similarities and differences that exist in these stories.
Thank you again for this opportunity for us to discover more about the Mirror of Mythology!
