Summer SAVY, Session 1 Day 1, The Makings of America (3rd – 4th)

Posted by on Monday, June 10, 2024 in blog, SAVY.

Today in Makings of America, we analyzed the lyrics, “The Rich Lady Over the Sea.”  The students were able to make comparisons between the 13 colonies and the British government. We examined causes and effects and looked at the purposes of taxes.  We also discussed taxation without representation.  The students analyzed the Sugar Act, Quartering Act, Declaratory Act, Townshend Acts, and the Tea Act.  We also listened to School House Rock’s, “No More Kings”.  The students were very attentive and worked well together in pairs as we looked at primary sources from the Revolutionary period.

Tonight as you talk about the learning from today, I would like for your student to complete the Exit Ticket for Day 1 if possible.

Reflection Journal- Imagine that you are a member of Parliament or an American colonist in the summer of 1765.  Think about what your point of view on the Stamp Act would have been, and write a sentence explaining your point of view and three or more sentences explaining your reasoning.

We look forward to a great day tomorrow!
