Fall Saturday SAVY, Week 3, In the Mind’s Eye: Truth vs Perception (5th-6th)
Hello, families of budding philosophers! Well, it was our final day, and we learned a lot! Today we reinvestigated the nature of truth and dug deeper into the meaning behind the allegory of Plato’s Cave. We finished our debate on whether reality is subjective or objective and then began to work on our own interpretations of Plato’s cave as told through the archetype of the hero’s journey. We painted, drew, and made comic strips to illustrate the hidden truths and wisdom that come down to us from the ancients! Later, we met guest speaker Kayla Townsley – a neuroscientist and artist who lives in New York. She taught us about the rules of perception in drawing and how to establish a vanishing point. We made cubes and then learned about how to flatten and destroy them a la Picasso! Make sure to ask your budding philosopher if they are a Platonist or an Aristotelian! Thank you all for an amazing course!
