Fall Saturday SAVY, Week 1, Becoming a Botanist (K)
It was wonderful welcoming all our eager Botanists today and getting to know them!
After our welcome activities and discussion of student expectations, we learned about what scientists do, and how botanists are scientists. After donning lab coats, we set to work to discover what plants need to survive. Students set up a large terrarium, as well as a mini terrarium to take home to observe through the next week.
These mini terrariums are for the students to keep; they can bring them in next Saturday if they wish to share what they have observed or just be prepared to talk about what they noticed throughout the week in their terrariums.
Questions to ask your student about their day:
- What do Botanists study?
- What do plants need to survive?
- What does the chlorophyll in a plant’s leaves do?
- What happens during the process of photosynthesis?
- Why are some leaves changing from green to orange, red, yellow, or brown?
