Summer SAVY Session 6, Day 4, Forces of Nature

Posted by on Thursday, July 27, 2023 in blog, SAVY.

We finally got to utilize all of the information we’ve learned this week to create windmills out of many material choices. The sailboat science experiment was completed today and the students learned more about the steps of the scientific method, especially about hypothesis, trials and testing, variables and controls, and applied the engineering process of improving their blades and sails. The knowledge of materials, shapes and amount of windmill blades, and wind energy added to their success in their prototypes and final products. We are continuing our observations of the wind during our snack and Outdoor Recreation Activity (ORA) times in order to scale them on the Beaufort Scale. The students also learned about Newton’s Laws!

Thank you for choosing Forces of Nature and SAVY for a great experience
