Summer SAVY Session 6, Day 3, Harry Potter (Owens)
Today, witches and wizards alike returned to potions class for one last lesson. Here, we discussed bubbling brews and the way that certain drugs act in “magical” ways in the body (Tylenol vs Advil). Both Tylenol and Advil provide similar relief to pain, but only one’s pathway of action is fully understood. After potions class, the Wizarding Academy took to the fields for a round of Quidditch. After three intense rounds of competition, Slytherin house (William’s class) and Gryffindor house (Olivia’s class) were crowned the winners. After returning to the classroom, we learned about some of the wizarding worlds furry friends, owls. Following a think-pair-share about a variety of owl species, the class dissected owl pellets revealing components of an owl’s diet. Great questions to continue the discussion outside of the classroom could include:
- How surprised were you with how owl vision compares to human vision?
- What did you find in your owl pellet?
- What other household items could you mix to make a bubbling brew?
