Summer SAVY Session 4, Day 5, From Myth to Modern Legend (Schwartz)

Posted by on Friday, July 14, 2023 in blog, SAVY.

Day 5:  Today, all of our hard work came together as students presented their original myths and board games to their peers in the other section of “From Myth to Modern Legend!” For their myths, students created a story that uses characters from Greek mythology, as well as heroes and creatures of their own invention, to tell the story of a legendary quest. Each story is at least two pages and is accompanied by an illustration, artifact, or symbol. Students were asked to include dialogue, foreshadowing, similes, and characterization, just like the books and films we read and watched this week.

To engage your student and learn more about the background of their story and board games, you might ask the following questions:

  • Which myth, book, or movie most inspired your story/game?
  • Does your story/game explain a natural phenomenon? If not, is it a heroic quest?
  • What characters from Greek mythology did you use in your myth? What did you learn about these characters this week?

Great job by all of the mythologists, illustrators, and writers this week!
