Summer SAVY Session 4, Day 5, From Myth to Modern Legend (Waxman)

Posted by on Friday, July 14, 2023 in blog, SAVY.

Day 5:  Happy Friday! We had a fabulous final day in Greek Mythology: Myth to Modern Legend! This morning, we completed our mythological board games and finished writing our own myths. Students then had the opportunity to present their final projects to the class!

For the board games, we had students create Greek mythology versions of Chess, Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, and more! For the myths that students created, we learned about everything from the formation of snow and rain to the first taste of ice cream to the life story of the mythical tennis gods. The students all brought their board games and myths home with them, so please encourage your children to share/explain their projects with you!
Although this course focused exclusively on Greek mythology, we also learned a little bit about the Roman names of the main gods and goddesses today! If students are interested in continuing their study of mythology, I would encourage them to look at how the Greek myths translate into the foundation of the Roman empire and culture.
Some dinner table questions:
  • What did you create for your final project? Why?
  • Of the board games you played this afternoon, which was your favorite and why?
  • Of the other student presentations this afternoon, which was your favorite and why?
  • What was your favorite part of the course?
I so enjoyed getting to know the students this week, and I hope they enjoyed immersing themselves in Greek mythology! Have a wonderful weekend.
Warmly,
Ms. Waxman and Mr. Knight
