Summer SAVY Session 3, Day 5 – Games Galore

Posted by on Friday, June 30, 2023 in blog, SAVY.

Day 5:  We had an exciting last day of our Games Galore session! Today, students started the day learning about sample spaces. They learned that a sample space is a way of showing all possible outcomes for an event. Students practiced identifying sample spaces for a variety of situations. They then used the morning to create, test, and improve their game designs.

Game designers were challenged to make a game from provided materials. Criteria given to the game designers included the following:

  • Have a name displayed
  • Include step-by-step directions for how to play and how to win
  • Be fair (meaning that each player had an equal chance of winning)
  • Be creative and fun!

They discussed how they generated ideas for their games and made predictions about what would happen when their game was played. Excitement grew throughout the day as students got their games ready for the big event. In the afternoon, students had a blast presenting their games to carnival goers! The games were well received by our SAVY staff members, and a good time was had by all!

Following the carnival, game designers were asked to reflect on their games and think about what they would modify or change about their games to make them better.  Some students even talked about continuing to improve their games at home!

Thank you for sharing your children with us this week. We hope they enjoyed this session as much as we did!
