Summer SAVY Session 3, Day 4 – Matter Mysteries
Day 4: Today, we solved the matter Mystery of “Who Stole the Principal’s Water?” as we learned all about the true culprit–evaporation! We also touched on the concepts of measuring volume and mass and using the respective scientific tools to do so. Using graduated cylinders, measuring cups, and balance beams were some fun, hands-on explorations we engaged in today. Your kids are now armed with even more tools of the trade in their science toolboxes!
- Evaporation is a natural way of water changing states.
- Concept generalizations
- Change is everywhere.
- Change can be natural or manmade.
- Change can be random or predictable.
- Mass is the measurement of how much matter is in an object.
- Volume is usually calculated using liquid volume measurement techniques.
- How did you measure volume today?
- How did you measure mass?
- How are mass and volume different?
