Summer SAVY Session 3, Day 2 – Transformations in Writing
Day 2: Today was a great 2nd day in our community, and we hope that it was a great day for you as well!
Today was all about character arcs! The students watched a video about character arcs and then discussed with groups a character arc from a popular movie. Some groups chose Mulan from “Mulan,” Charlie from “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, plus many more! We delved into the age-old questions, “Who am I?”, and “What is my purpose?”; in terms of our characters. We worked through our characters’ personalities and formulated individual journeys of conflict and triumph. The students drew character arcs for the characters they chose on day one! They also selected characters who experienced waves of transformations that brought on new and different transformations.
The students have taken their characters and began to form a story around them. They have written out the details and have begun to put them into drawings on comic strips! Tomorrow, we will continue our transformations comics, explore the writing process, and begin to weave our characters together for a fun activity.
Ask your student about their characters and comic strips to find out how their character is transforming!
