Summer SAVY Session 2, Day 3 – Chemical Spill
Day 3: We continued our analysis of substances by testing their pH and worked on neutralizing acid with the use of sodium bicarbonate.
We also tested whether we could dilute acid with water.
Questions to ask at dinnertime:
- How did you know when an acid was neutralized?
- What reaction did you get when you tried to neutralize the acidity of lemon juice with sodium bicarbonate?
- What happened when you tried to dilute the vinegar with water?
- Did you change an acid to a pH of 7? What did that show you?
We will put our knowledge of pH into use when we get to test the hypothetic spill tomorrow and brainstorm ways to treat it.
