Bioengineering day 1

Welcome to bioengineering! We were so excited to meet our new engineers and begin to explore the world of bioengineering.  Today was spent getting to know one another, establishing lab rules, and learning how engineers “think”.  Time flew as students were grouped into engineering teams to address a very simple challenge.. design a tower for our special technology.  Both of us were so impressed by how students asked the appropriate questions to understand the problem, imagined and then planned how to build their tower.  These natural engineers tested their designs and through learning from one another figured out how to improve their designs. They were using the engineering design process, a method to think through engineering problems.  Students will continue to use this model all week to address bioengineering design challenges.  See you tomorrow when we will learn how engineering can be used to understand the code for every cell in your body, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)!
