Spring Saturday SAVY, Week 1, The Science of Senses (Whiting)(3rd-4th)
Today in Science of the Senses, we began with a pre-test so that students could demonstrate their prior knowledge and help guide my instruction based on their present level of understanding. Afterward, we learned about the chemistry of cooking. Students completed a chemical compound simulation learning about molecules and how they impact cooking. Students also explored how the states of matter are related to cooking. Next week, we will explore mixtures and compounds before analyzing food ingredients to locate “fake foods.” It was a busy day!
When your student returns home tonight, please discuss the following journal prompt: Certain foods can bring back memories of places or events of the past. For example, eating popcorn makes some people think of going to the movie theater. Name a food that reminds you of something and explain what it reminds you of. You can simply discuss the prompt or have your student create a written response.
I am excited to continue engaging your students in learning more about The Science of the Senses!
