Spring SAVY 2020: Day 1 – Operation Save the Beach (1st/2nd)

Posted by on Monday, February 10, 2020 in Grade 1, Grade 2, SAVY.

Greetings SAVY Parents,

We had a great day of learning in the session, Operation Save the Beach!  It was a joy meeting your child and facilitating the learning that took place on Day 1.  Perseverance was the name of the game, and the first and second-grade scholars rose to the occasion. They demonstrated critical-thinking skills, problem-solving skills, and how to embrace a challenge.  The goal for the day was to determine if a beach environment is a system.  After working with different models, students gained a solid understanding of what a system is and the generalizations, which support the concept.  By the end of class, students were collaboratively working and brainstorming with peers about what defines a system.  I’m excited about Day 2 on February 15 as we step into the role of a scientist by studying weathering, erosion, and the impact it has on a beach environment.

See you next week!
