SAVY 2019: Session 4, Day 5 – Fractions at Work (Rising 3rd/4th)

Posted by on Friday, July 12, 2019 in Grade 3, Grade 4, SAVY.

Wow! What a great week! I will miss this group very much. It was a pleasure getting to work with such engaged students. To cap off the week, we continued working on some number and fraction puzzles. These puzzles required students to do math operations with fractions. It was so interesting to listen to the students’ ideas about how they reasoned and solved the puzzles!

We hope you enjoyed our trip down memory lane with some of our favorite activities from the week! To keep the learning going here are some suggestions:

  1. Point out fractions in real world situations. Cooking, planning meals, road trips, etc. all provide lots of opportunities to problem solve with fractions and math. Make your child do the work!
  2. Number puzzles and riddles like magic squares
  3. Visual/spatial puzzles and activities
