Summer SAVY 2019: Session 2, Day 5 – Ecological Expedition (Rising 3rd/4th)
What a great week at SAVY! We ended our journey today by finishing some of our projects from the week. The “Zoo of the Future” prototype is now complete! I was amazed at the different enrichments the students added to their enclosures to give their animals a real life experience at the zoo. The emperor penguin group added an ocean sound machine and northern lights! The group who researched pandas included water toys and an obstacle course in one of the trees! Finally, our elephant group had baby toys and a box full of food that the elephants could only eat if they could get it open! Each group applied their research and their knowledge from the zoo presentation yesterday! I was impressed! As we ended the day we discussed interactions in groups. We took advantage of the nice weather playing ameba tag and then discussing the benefits of working together. Students continued their study on group interactions by reading about a specific animal group and creating a WANTED poster for that animal based on how animals in that group worked together.
I enjoyed meeting everyone’s parents and family members at Open House today! A big shout out to all of the parents who made a variety of sacrifices so your child could be at SAVY this week. It is because of you that these students have a love of learning and are passionate about what’s going on in our world. I loved reading about the students’ passion projects that are planning on doing this summer to continue their journey as an ecologist! Looking forward to seeing everyone in the near future at SAVY! Have a great rest of the summer!
