Summer SAVY 2019: Session 2, Day 1 – Environmental Explorations (Rising 1st/2nd)

Posted by on Monday, June 17, 2019 in Grade 1, Grade 2, SAVY.

Greetings from Environmental Explorations class, here at SAVY!
Today has been exciting, as we have started talking about what scientists do. I am so impressed with how much these young scientists already know! We started a “Words We Know” chart, that will live in our classroom this week.  Just today, we added the words wafting, (prefix) pre-, data, predict, bioluminescent, (suffix) -ist, observe, and investigate
We also started a Science Notebook today, that our budding scientists will bring home on Friday.  In this notebook, they will write down many things they learn, throughout the course of the week.
Tomorrow, I have a scientist friend coming to visit who studies pathology, microbiology, and immunology.  The children will have the opportunity to ask him questions about what kinds of things he does, as a scientist.  However, tonight your student should ask you a question, for us to discuss in class tomorrow:
If you could study ANYTHING, what would it be?
I’m looking very forward to helping your student develop a deeper respect for and application of science, as we move through Environmental Explorations.
Until next time, stay SAVY 🙂
