Summer SAVY 2019: Session 1, Day 5 – Tremendous Transformations in Writing (Rising 3rd/4th)

Posted by on Friday, June 14, 2019 in Grade 3, Grade 4, SAVY.

What a week we have had! With an eye toward publishing our own work, we started the day by examining children’s books and noting their important parts: cover, preview, title page, copyright page, dedication, illustrations, text, and an About the Author section. We then gathered materials for our own book creation and got to work transforming our stories into books!
Making a book can be a complex process. Formatting, for instance, transforms a story by changing its visual layout and pace. The way a story is formatted changes the reader’s experience, so some students took their time trying out different possibilities before reaching for their glue sticks. With so many steps to creating a book, it helps to set specific goals to stay focused and organized. Once goals were set, students got to work typing, formatting, and illustrating their books throughout the morning. It was exciting to see our stories come to life! We had many fantastic original works to celebrate by the end of the day!
It was a joy to meet so many of you at our Open House this afternoon! Thank you for supporting your child’s SAVY experience!!
