Summer SAVY 2018: Session 4, Day 5 – Adventures in Algebra (Rising 2nd)

Posted by on Friday, July 13, 2018 in Grade 2, SAVY.

Happy Fifth Day!

Thanks for visiting our Open House today. The mathematicians had fun displaying their stores and earning money for the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Here are the earnings from all the stores: Video Action- $611, Amateur Sporting Goods-$530, Forbidden Book Store-$369, Adventures & Pets- $272, Snack Hacks- $251, and the Bakery-$202. The mathematicians decided to donate the entire $2,235 to the Children’s Hospital for the purchase of more nature-themed artwork.

After Open House, the students were introduced to the “Cover-up” method for solving algebraic equations. They continued to use multiple pieces of information to solve problems that involve two unknowns. They reviewed the guess-and-test method along with an organized list to solve problems with two unknowns. Thank you for giving them this wonderful opportunity to serve on the Medical Board of Directors at the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

Dr. P. 🙂
