Summer SAVY 2018: Session 1, Day 5 – Dabbling with DNA, Miss P (Rising 3rd and 4th)

Posted by on Friday, June 15, 2018 in Grade 3, Grade 4, SAVY.

Hello young scientists (and parents!)

Today was our final day at Dabbling with DNA. We were immunologists today, with a little bit of medical training! We discussed the components of blood and how to determine someone’s blood type. Can your young scientist remember the definitions for antigen and antibody? Do they remember how they interact? These vocabulary words are very important and relevant to blood types and blood transfusions. We used “blood” of different types (really just water with food coloring!) to test which blood types could give to and get blood from the other types. Do you know what blood type you are?

This week has been such an awesome experience for me and I hope your young scientist feels the same! Have a safe and fun summer and keep thinking like a scientist!
