Spring SAVY 2018, Day 1- Ecological Expedition (1st/2nd)

Happy First Day!

My Interactions in Ecology and Literature class is digging deep into a reading and science unit on the interactions among animals, people, books, art, words, and the environment.

They took a pre-assessment by completing a concept map on their prior knowledge of “interactions”. They learned that interactions are actions between different living and nonliving things. They took a nature walk to explore examples of interactions and displayed their observations on individual sticky notes. They combined their interaction examples with their peers and organized them into different categories. As scientists, they analyzed the four generalizations (Interactions are inevitable, Interactions allow for changes by multiple influences, and Interactions can be positive, negative, or mutually beneficial) associated with “interactions”. The students were encouraged to share their ideas in class so that their classmates could benefit from the creativity that filled the room. I was proud to see the students working and acting like real scientists while reflecting on what they learned through their journaling.

Sincerely,

Dr. P. 🙂
