Fall SAVY 2017, Day 5- Genetic Engineering: The Science of Modified Organisms (5th/6th)
Our 5th Saturday has come and gone!
We started our day with the transformed E.coli from the bioengineering virtual lab where the students engineered competent cells to carry a red pigment color from jellyfish. We took these cells and plated them on nutrient agar (bacteria growth food). This “petri-dish art” will be a living canvas which should grow throughout the week for us to view together on our last day! We also went over the laws and rules in place to control GMO’s and what is being done for the future. As the world continues to need more and more food it will be up to us to figure out how that is made.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and I will see everyone next Saturday!!!
