Fall SAVY 2017, Day 2- Genetic Engineering: The Science of Modified Organisms (5th/6th)

Posted by on Monday, October 2, 2017 in Grade 5, Grade 6, SAVY.

We finished up week two with an amazing Saturday filled with nothing but GMOs! We got to see our petri plates from last week’s bacteria experiment, and man were they gross…and spectacular! We saw thousands of colonies with a variety of colors; yellow, orange, white, etc. The students were amazed at what had been living right under their noses (no pun intended).

Next, we talked about what GMOs are and how they are made. We even started our very own GMO corn experiment. This experiment is similar to a very popular one going around the internet (https://experiment.com/projects/the-gmo-corn-experiment) check it out!

Next Saturday we will weigh our corn to see which one the animals preferred.
I am excited to see which one the animals picked!!! See you guys next week!
