Summer SAVY 2017, Session 6/Day 1- Wildlife Ecology (Rising 6th/7th)

Posted by on Monday, July 24, 2017 in SAVY.

We had an excellent first day in Wildlife Ecology! We’re studying white-tailed deer, their environment, and how human behavior affects deer populations. We learned
quite a lot of information about deer in the eastern United States today by simulating competition for resources and how population size changes over time and by practicing estimation of populations of organisms in the wild.

Tomorrow we’re going to talk about ticks and Lyme disease. We’ll also have several activities about survival strategies used by different species of organisms and
natural selection.

Have a great Monday evening!

Ms. Lucy Organ
