Summer SAVY 2017, Session 6/Day 1- Survive and Thrive (Rising 1st)

Posted by on Monday, July 24, 2017 in SAVY.

Happy First Day!

Our Survive and Thrive class is digging into a life science unit on animals, their characteristics, and their environments. They were pre-assessed on their prior knowledge of the generalizations involving “change” by completing a concept map. They explored what it means to be a “scientist” and created a list of safety rules they should follow when handling different kinds of materials. They tested their understanding of the safety rules by predicting and performing short experiments involving water and various household materials. I was proud to see the students working and acting like real scientists while testing their hypotheses.

Tomorrow, the students will take a nature walk to observe the generalization of “change is everywhere.” They will also delve into a math challenge in order to learn that there are different ways to solve a problem. The students will be encouraged to share their ideas in class so their classmates can benefit from various levels of creativity.

Sincerely,

Dr. P. 🙂

Homework (optional):
