Summer SAVY 2017, Session 1/Day 3- Introduction to Law (Rising 6th/7th)

Posted by on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 in SAVY.

Today, students presented their projects/presentations that pertained to

the different elements of negligence. They did an excellent job in

presenting their assigned element in creative and unique ways. After the

presentations I presented a mini lecture on some more aspects of criminal

law because students have expressed interest in learning more about

criminal law. In the afternoon, students were introduced to the

intentional torts of battery, assault, intentional infliction of

emotional distress and false imprisonment. Their final project of the day

involved splitting into groups to work on  mock trials that related to an

intentional tort. The group is either representing the plaintiff or the

defendant in their assigned case. We began some of the mock trial today

and will complete it tomorrow morning. Students have done opening

arguments, direct examinations and cross examinations and are

participating as attorneys, witnesses, plaintiff, defendant, and jurors.

The Teaching Assistant is the judge.
