Spring SAVY 2017, Day 4- Hydrology 101: The World of Water

Posted by on Monday, February 20, 2017 in Grade 3, Grade 4, SAVY.

Water management… There are no easy solutions when thinking about community, nation, and global water management. Today we learned a few tricks of the trade when thinking about managing our water here in Tennessee. Students role played as community stakeholders who were planning the city of Dragonfly Pond. Each stakeholder brought a unique perspective as well as a set of goals and desires, making compromise difficult! Planning is especially challenging when we try to consider city planning through the lens of water management. Student debated, compromised, planned, and then presented their products to the classroom.

Afterwords we moved through a series of lab stations that tested the student’s knowledge about topics we have covered in class. Stations included topics such as surface tension, cloud creation, pathogen pollution, and recycling.

Next week we will move on to water treatment as we consider hydrology through the eyes of an environmental engineer!
