Spring SAVY 2017, Day 1- Science of the Sea: Diving into Marine Biology

Posted by on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 in Grade 1, Grade 2, SAVY.

Our first week of Science of the Sea was all about aquatic ecosystems. We learned about freshwater versus saltwater ecosystems and classified organisms by where they prefer to live. We also learned about estuaries, which connect salt and freshwater. We learned about the scientific method and what marine biologists do. To get an idea of how “salty” salt water is, we learned about how a scientist would take a sample of ocean water and measure it for salt content. Then we actually got to measure out the amount of salt in salt water and compare it to the salt in fresh water using a scientific measuring instrument. Next week we will learn about ocean zones and how to classify organisms using scientific classification methods!
