Fall SAVY 2016 (Day 4) – Robotic Programming

Greetings!

IMG_20161015_104628237Today was busy, busy, busy!  We started with a programming meeting, and worked on what the variables are that we can control when we program.  The kids were able to identify them:  color, speed, sound, angle, and time.  The really amazing thing is that we did an activity about angles, and they learned that there are 360 degrees in a circle, and how making that number smaller or larger controls the direction of the Sphero (for example, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, etc.).  They did a great job!

Next, we worked at different levels.  Some of the kids were ready for activity 3, which was a little more complicated than last week because it involved looping and repeating.  Some of the kids needed to work on programming more, and some of them that programmed and woIMG_20161015_104523758_TOPrked really hard last week wanted to work on obstacles that could interact with their Spheros.  So, everyone got a lot done today!  There are times when programming can be pretty intense, but you would be amazed at how about half the kids want to skip snack to work on the programming.  They really have learned so much!

Their “homework” is to think about what they would like for their Sphero to do for a project for the open house.  We talked about some different ideas and they are really excited about getting time to show you what they have learned.  They have done such a good job!  I just can’t stress that enough.  I see how much progress they have made from week to week and I am truly amazed at how quickly they are learning such advanced content.  I love it!

 Have a great week!
