Fall SAVY 2016 (Day 3) – Robotic Programming

Posted by on Monday, October 10, 2016 in Grade 1, Grade 2, SAVY.

Greetings!

Today, there were lots of smiles and celebrations!  The kids started learning about the Spheros, how they work, and how to write code to make them do whatever they can dream up for them to do!  It is full of lots of little steps and is very detailed, so when their programs worked, they were ecstatic.  There were lots of fist pumps and celebrations!

One of the things that they learned is that the Spheros have LED lights that they can actually control, cause to strobe, etc.  They had some practice codings and lessons on that, and then they began to learn how to make them move.  They learned that the small details are very important, because if you tell it to move for 4 seconds but don’t tell it which direction to move, it does nothing!  They had to figure out the directions with angle settings, degrees that it would spin around, and were even able to add sound effects to it.  They really did a terrific job!  Almost all of them had at least 12 steps in their programs, all of which they put chose the order, commands, and had to specify the details.  When it was time to go home, they were not ready to stop!  Every one of them had positive things to say about how they did and were very excited because this is the first time they got to create whatever they could imagine.  I can hardly wait to see what they create next week.

Have a wonderful week!
