Fall SAVY 2016 (Day 3) – Media Mania!
Dear Media Mania parents,
This past Saturday turned out to be a very exciting day full of spirited debate and cooperation!
Our morning kicked off to a strong start with our Media Mania Debate– Developers vs Researchers. Our class split up into two groups to debate the possible consequences of a platform that turns books into animated movies, an idea that came directly from the class. Each team was given the opportunity to come up with pros and cons and then try to refute the other team’s arguments. We had a friendly and spirited debate between peers!
This wasn’t merely a debate about consequences, it was an opportunity for the class to see how the issues brought forth by researchers can influence the way media are developed. Afterwards, we were extremely impressed to see how seamlessly the two groups worked together to try and address some of the concerns brought up during the debate.
Our next task for the day was to practice using what we had learned about research methods to design our very own experiments. Pairs of students brainstormed how to test if the app crossy road could impact fine motor skills and attention. Our groups came up with fantastic ways to measure both positive and negative consequences that could arise from the app use.
Next week we will practice collecting and analyzing data, all in preparation for our final projects! We are very excited to see what questions your students address for their individual posters.
We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
Israel and Emily
