Fall SAVY 2016 (Day 2) – Robotic Programming

Posted by on Monday, October 3, 2016 in Grade 1, Grade 2, SAVY.

Greetings!

Class this week was full of learning, challenges, and fun!  We started by setting goals for what we wanted to learn and reviewing what we had learned last week. The kids figured out that coding can be challenging and how each step is important. If you leave off a step, then the program won’t work correctly. However, when you figure it out, it’s very rewarding and exciting!  We talked about how it isn’t easy at first, but it’s exciting to be able to complete something that you thought was really hard at first.

We then got the Spheros out and they all got to use them!  They had hands-on time and learned how they work, steer, and how to manipulate them by changing their colors and speed. They then broke into different groups by interest. Some worked on building obstacle courses and creating challenges for their Spheros to complete, while others researched what Spheros are capable of, with my help, so that they could get some ideas. They were so into it that it felt like we blinked and time was up!  They set goals for next week and are excited about continuing to learn more.

Have a great week!  If you are on vacation for fall break, stay safe and enjoy yourselves!

Best,

Dr. Mall
