Summer SAVY 2016 (Session 5, Day 3) – Agricultural Engineering

Posted by on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 in Grade K, SAVY.

Happy Third Day!

Today the students read and acted out a play about Integrated Pest Management: an approach to pest control that moderates damage caused by pests while simultaneously protecting the environment and human health by eliminating the use of pesticides. They identified ways that insects can be problems and ways that they can be used as part of solutions to problems. They concluded that they will design and create hand pollinators to help Mariana’s Ohelo plant reproduce.

Tomorrow the students will observe and compare the efficacy of different materials for picking up and depositing pollen. They will conduct a controlled experiment and use the results of the experiment to make decisions about what materials would work best to create their hand pollinators.

Sincerely,
Dr. P 🙂

Homework (Optional):
What materials and properties of materials work best for picking up and dropping off pollen?
