Summer SAVY 2016 (Session 5, Day 1) – Marvelous Molecules (Dr. Zeiger)
Welcome to Marvelous Molecules! Our first class was so exciting as we got to meet our new young scientists! We first took time to get to know one another and then started to learn about what scientists do. Students got creative in coming up with tools, experiments, and even drawing how a scientist might look.
Next, we began experimenting with chemistry in a bag. Students made hypotheses, gathered data, and even modified their experiments. They mixed phenol red, baking soda, and calcium chloride to create a chain of chemical reactions that produced a gas along with both an endothermic and exothermic reaction. We were very impressed about the great scientific observations being made. Ask your scientist about the proper way to smell something in the lab!
See ya tomorrow!
