Summer SAVY 2016 (Session 4PM, Day 8) – Capturing Perspective: The Art of Documentary Theater

Posted by on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 in Grade 5, Grade 6, SAVY.

Students, I’m… Well, I’m insanely proud of you.
In such a short period of time, you have accomplished so much! In the last three days, you have crafted a new play – a new play! – from your collected primary sources. You’ve rehearsed and shaped and sharpened that play, and now you have a draft that not only can be performed by you, but that could be performed by other students, in other places.  And you have a title, and it’s a great title! I’m very excited to share A Clipped Wing with your parents and our other guests this Friday, at our open house.
You’ve participated in workshops led by visiting artists from Chicago. You’ve worked collaboratively, and A Clipped Wing is proof of what the nine of you can do when you work together. And along the way, you’ve played a few theatre games and you’ve appreciated a little jazz music and you’ve made me laugh. This has been a great experience for me, and I thank you; I think it’s important that students also teach their teacher.
I’m looking forward to the last two days of class, as we refine A Clipped Wing and play a few more games. I’ll see you soon!
