Summer SAVY 2016 (Session 4PM, Day 5) – Story Creations

Posted by on Friday, July 15, 2016 in Grade K, SAVY.

Dear Parents:

Today, students began their day finishing stories from yesterday and some began new stories. I am so amazed at how much these students love writing. Next we began a conversation about synonyms. We talked about how using more vivid. Descriptive words makes us better authors. We also considered why more descriptive words in text make our writing better.

We then read a book called Owl Moon, by jan Yolen, and students were asked to listen for really vivid describing words that the author used in the story. We wrote them down on a chart so we could consider using some of those vivid words in our next story.

After the book, the students were given a picture to look at and were then asked to write a story about the picture (make up their own plot based on the picture). The instructions were to make sure they had a beginning, middle and end, as well as characters, setting, problem or conflict, solution and to use at least 3 descriptive words in their story.

Students got off to a stupendous start and then we ran out of time. We will write more Monday! Have a terrific weekend.

Another Pen, next week, Once Again,
