Summer SAVY 2016 (Session 4PM, Day 3) – Capturing Perspective: The Art of Documentary Theater

Posted by on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 in Grade 5, Grade 6, SAVY.

Thank you for another fun and adventurous day, as we got on our feet and into the field, working to develop our piece of documentary theatre!  Yesterday you selected the broad topic of “Gender Inequality” as our jumping-off point, and today you had an opportunity to meet dozens of unique individuals: students and faculty on the Vanderbilt campus, each with experiences and opinions worthy of exploration. You put into practice interview and information-gathering techniques, gathering raw data to create short pieces of “verbatim theatre” with titles like, “Rock,” “Strong Feelings,” “Putting It Into Society,” and “Sometimes I Listen to Jazz.” I so enjoyed your creativity and your thoughtfulness. Tomorrow we will continue to make theatre from your found content, and we will imagine additional means by which we come by material for our project.
