Summer SAVY 2016 (Session 4PM, Day 1) – Capturing Perspective: The Art of Documentary Theater

Thank you for a fun and productive first day with Capturing Perspectives! In addition to hearing your first efforts at documentary theatre — using newfound tools to introduce yourselves to one another — we explored a number of sophisticated concepts, including the use of semiotics in performance, the distinctions between objective and subjective content, and the power of silence and of subtext. I also thoroughly enjoyed our discussion about the topics that may become the focus of our devised piece. Tomorrow we will continue to narrow down the focus of our created work, and we will sample the works of Anna Deavere Smith, one of the most regarded creators of “Verbatim Theatre.” See you tomorrow!
