Summer SAVY 2016 (Session 4AM/PM, Day 3) – The Science of Complexity

Posted by on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 in Grade 1, Grade 2, SAVY.

Today we noticed that our fruit-trash bottles have more air in their balloons than the paper or meat bottles. Our predictions include: fruit lets out air when it composts, fruit breathes air in and out, and fruit decomposes faster. More to come on the trash as the week goes on. We also started to dive deeper into the complex system of ants. We observed ants outside making straight lines to get food, but scattering when there wasn’t any food. We acted out the behaviors we observed and started translating them into a program. Tomorrow, we will observed ants in an enclosed container to collect data about how their foraging patterns change as they have access to more and more space. Then, we will use this data to refine our computational models.
