Summer SAVY 2016 (Session 4AM/PM, Day 2) – The Science of Complexity

Posted by on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in Grade 1, Grade 2, SAVY.

Today we continued on the theme of computers by creating computer programs using scratch. The AM class created a diverse array of characters, including monkeys, sharks, dragons, and puppies. The PM class made programs about themselves. These programming skills will be useful as we start to build computational models at the end of the week! During the second half of class, we identified different types of trash and made predictions about what would happen if the trash went to a landfill. To test our predictions, we made landfills-in-bottles with different types of trash. AM did cardboad, soft foods (veggies and fruits) and crunchy foods (stale chips and egg shells) and PM used paper, fruit, and animal products (beef and eggs). We are already seeing some gas build up inside the balloons on top or these landfill models – I wonder what that could be? We’ll let it break down a little more before we answer that question and focus on ants tomorrow
