Summer SAVY 2016 (Session 4AM, Day 4) – Memory and the Brain

Posted by on Thursday, July 14, 2016 in Grade 3, Grade 4, SAVY.

Today the students got to see- and even touch- brains from various animals. They saw the a human brain, sheep brain, cow brain, two different primate brains, a rat brain, a mouse brain, and pictures of the brains of many different animals’ brains. Be sure to ask them which brain was their favorite! We also had a good discussion about the ethics of animal research, a discussion you may want to continue at home. We finished up by watching a video about bionic limbs and learning a little bit about the hippocampus- a discussion that we will continue next week. Tomorrow we will be going on a field trip to various labs at Vanderbilt to see how we study behavior and memory in humans and in mice.
