Summer SAVY 2016 (Session 3, Day 1) – What’s the Matter

Posted by on Monday, June 27, 2016 in Grade K, SAVY.

Today in What’s the Matter, students explored lab safety, worked on their concept mapping skills, and made observed change using their senses. In anticipation of our upcoming experiments, we explored how change is everywhere, how change is related to time, how change can be natural or manmade, and that change can be either random or predictable. Students were introduced to the three states of matter and observed a blue ice cube dissolve in a cup of vegetable oil as we talked about viscosity and density. Tomorrow, we will explore what it means to be a scientist, observe, describe, and classify the physical properties of several types of matter and experiment with artificial snow polymer and sodium polyacrelate!
