Career Connections at SAVY Saturday, Week 3, Powering the Future: The Wonders of Batteries and Electrochemistry (7th-8th)
SAVY Families,
Our final Saturday of Powering the Future: The Wonders of Batteries and Electrochemistry was amazing! I want to take a moment to share how truly wonderful your child has been in class. It has been an absolute pleasure watching them learn, grow, and actively engage in our lessons and activities.
Throughout our time together, your young scholar has demonstrated remarkable effort in both individual work and group activities. We first explored fundamental concepts of chemistry and electrochemistry, gaining a deeper understanding of electrons on a molecular level. Then, we investigated battery chemistry and how batteries power many things from the cell phone in our hands to the vehicles we drive. Finally, we researched electrochemical literature and presented our research like a scientist!
Today, we participated in various activities to learn more about electrochemists and electrochemical engineers. Some key takeaways from today include completing scientific research on electric vehicle manufacturers, critically investigating the research of peers, presenting electric vehicle and battery findings, and exploring chemical laboratory safety techniques and procedures. We wrapped up our course with an activity on investigating future schools, programs, and careers available for chemists and similar scientists!
Whether tackling challenging concepts, collaborating with peers, or bringing creative ideas to discussions, your student has shown a truly inspiring dedication. Their positive attitude and eagerness to improve do not go unnoticed, and I am so proud of the progress they have made. I am incredibly impressed with your child’s dedication and success in learning new content and concepts. Their intellectual curiosity, critical thinking skills, and commitment to academics have truly set them apart. Thank you for your continuous support at home—it greatly makes a difference in their success. I hope this experience has ignited their flame for the world of chemistry!
