Summer 2021 Courses Announced!

Are you looking for a summer learning opportunity for an academically advanced learner in your life? PTY is now accepting applications for our virtual summer experiences. Join us online!

Programs for Talented Youth provides academically advanced learners the opportunity to take accelerated coursework in a creative, supportive, and rigorous environment. Our fast-paced and engaging courses are taught by Vanderbilt faculty, scholars, and content experts and are specially designed for academically advanced and motivated students.

PTY Online Academy (Rising 3rd-12th grade)

PTY Online Academy is an online learning opportunity that offers experiences for the academically advanced student in your life. In the summer, students enroll in classes that meets live and online for approximately 3 hours a day for one week (rising 3rd-4th grade) or two weeks (rising 5th-12th grade). Outside of class, students complete asynchronous assignments and meet during office hours with their instructor or teaching assistant, as needed, for additional help or enrichment. Each class will be capped at approximately 14-16 students for 3rd-6th grade and 18-20 students for 7th-12th grades. Each class includes a teaching assistant and instructor. PTY Online Academy offers a variety of course and meeting time options to fit unique schedules.

Applications open Tuesday, March 30. We encourage students to apply during the priority application window from March 30 to April 6 to increase their chances of being placed in their top-ranked course(s). Use the links below to learn more about PTY Online Academy.

Mentorship Experiences

Mentor Immersion: A Virtual Research Experience

PTY’s Mentor Immersion program is a unique experience offering in-depth exposure in an academic field and the potential for independent research or a culminating product to be created with expert feedback. Approximately 8 students are paired with a mentor and an additional teaching assistant/peer guide. Through this experience students are able to deepen their understanding in a field of study while making new friends with high ability peers and conducting research or creating a project similar to practicing professionals. Each mentorship meets synchronously for four hours a week for the length of the program. Typically, mentorship meeting times are in the evenings or weekends, allowing students time to also enjoy other extra-curricular activities during the summer. Students complete asynchronous work to further their knowledge. The times of the meetings vary by mentorship and will be posted with the mentorship description.

There are two session options.

Session 1: May 17 to August 15, 2021
Session 2: June 14 to September 19, 2021

Rising Experts: Mini Immersion

Rising Experts: Mini Immersion is a unique experience designed specifically for rising 9th and 10th grade students that pairs approximately 8 students with a mentor/content expert in a field. This program offers students early exposure to the content of a field, related career path information, and the opportunity to complete a small project associated with the field. During this 1-month small group experience, students can expect 6 hours of live session time with their mentor and classmates each week, 1 hour of study hall/office hours each week to meet with their mentor and get support on individual projects, and approximately 2-4 hours per week of meaningful asynchronous work.

There are two session options:

Session 1: June 1-June 30, 2021
Session 2: July 6-August 2, 2021

Applications for June are still being accepted with limited availability. Visit the Mini Immersion page for up-to-date June availability. Applications for the July session will be available starting March 30. Apply to the July session on or before April 12 to be be considered in the priority admissions decision window.
