Saturday SAVY, Day 3 – Science of the Senses (3rd/4th)

Posted by on Saturday, November 8, 2025 in blog, SAVY.

We had a great final week in SAVY!

This week, we finished our study of the five senses. Students continued their work as scientists and engineers as they discovered new content and prepared for the conclusion of our study.

First, we reviewed our understanding of discovery and created generalizations for this theme. Students also reviewed learning about the brain and how it interprets information from our sensory organs. Students explored the somatosensory system and used scientific observations to make hypotheses during our mystery bag investigation.

Next, our scholars reviewed the nervous system with a Kahoot! game. Students then worked to design their own Kahoot! review games on the iPads. Students also finished creating their own board games. They tested and improved the games, thinking just like engineers. To wrap up our study, students completed an assessment. I was pleased to note how much content knowledge they had gained over the three sessions!

Students received a great take-home book to further their understanding of the senses.

To continue learning further, consider the following activities:

  • Design a Kahoot! Create a free account and let students have fun designing a playing games. This is a great way to review all types of content.
  • Learn more about how the body works with great articles, videos, and games for kids: https://kidshealth.org/en/kids/bodymovies.html
  • Create a memory box together.    Students received a small box at the end of the session to use as a memory box. Encourage your student to curate items to remind them of a specific memory (favorite holiday, special trip, etc.). Guide them to use their five senses as they create their box!

It was a joy to teach your young scholars!
