Summer SAVY, Session 6 Day 5, “Greek Mythology 2.0” (5th-6th)

Posted by on Friday, July 25, 2025 in blog, SAVY.

Happy Friday, everyone! I had such a fun week with the students, and I hope they enjoyed diving deeper into the mythology canon this week, as well! Our Trojan War competition ended in a tie yesterday, so we began this morning with a tie-breaking competition game of Taboo: Trojan War Edition! It was a tight race, with the Greek team just eking out the victory by one point!

Then, students had a chance to finish up their projects from this week. The main project was for students to choose a myth and represent it in a variety of different ways, as each of the 9 muses would have represented the myth. It was so nice to see all of the students’ projects come together! Students also had a chance to present their projects to the class, and I was so impressed with the elements that students shared. I hope that they will also show off their hard work at home, as well.

From there, we put on a class play about Telemachus, the son of Odysseus. We certainly have some impressive actors in the class, as their accents, physical acting, and overall participation were exceptional! They even created props to help showcase their characters. It was so much fun to perform the play as a class!

In the final part of the afternoon, we finished up the week with a group trivia game! It was awesome to see the students showing off their newfound knowledge about Greek Mythology. Each student also got to take home a book to further their learning about the Iliad and the Odyssey, as well. I hope that they enjoy it!

Some dinner table questions:

  • What is your favorite element of your final project?
  • What was your favorite part of the play? What was something new you learned about Telemachus?
  • After this week, have you changed your mind about your favorite character in Greek Mythology? Why or why not?

Thank you for a great week!
