Summer SAVY Session 6, Day 2, Cracking the Case

Our class excelled at creating our fingerprints yesterday. Today, they made a very impressive model of a DNA strand. Students learned about what DNA is and how it is used in forensic science. Then, students completed a lab experiment where they extracted DNA from a strawberry. How cool! This is one that they might want to recreate at home!

Students worked to achieve these daily objectives through our labs:

  • Extract DNA strands from a crime scene
  • Analyze patterns in DNA strands to infer identities of suspects
  • Apply evidence from DNA strands to a criminal case
  • Describe the relationship between scientific evidence and suspects in a criminal case
